Following on from yesterday' s post, I took some time to check out the
Del.icio.us site the article referred to, and it is a fascinating concept. It is described as a social bookmarking site because as you add bookmarks to the Del.icio.us service, you can then see other people who have bookmarked that site and what other sites they have also bookmarked.
Also, as you add a bookmark, you can add 'tags' to describe that bookmark. You can then also subscribe to tags or to other users, so you can see all the political bookmarks added by that user, or you can subscribe to a list of all the bookmarks tagged as political+democrat by all users.
This way, you can see websites you may never have even thought to search for.
The technology is in a very early stage of testing, but you can see the potential for it replacing traditional search tools. I subscribe to the tags 'Democrat', 'Presidential' and 'Primary', and watch as the users I trust update their bookmarks with new information without me ever having to search via Google again...
