Podcasts or Dudcasts?

I love my Ipod - I really do. I was one of the first people I knew to get one, and it really did transform my life - anytime I wanted any song to listen to, there it was. Remarkable.

But I just can't excited about podcasts. For me, they are a solution looking for a problem. I know the articles this week offer many reasons about how we could use them, but that is not enough for me. There needs to be a burning problem that they fix to make it work, and I am not seeing it.

I have heard people say that they would be great for allowing people to get daily updates from the campaign, or copies of speeches they can then listen to when they have time. Maybe, but I am not holding my breath on that one to take off!

Where I do see podcasting having a bright future is when video and podcasting meet...if I could download last night's edition of The Daily Show and watch it on a train via a new video-enabled Ipod, I might be more interested. In the same way, if I could watch yesterday's rally where my candidate was speaking, I might be more interested.

But until then, I think it will be a hard sell to persuade people to download content from a campaign site, however cool the site or even the candidate might be.
