I believe the CNN article “Anti-war protesters go digital: Demonstrators use technology to organize, publicize, evade” represents a victory for democracy.

People and subgroups that are not given adequate means of expression and a voice in their government should have the right and the means to demonstrate. I think it’s amazing that they were able to get so many people together, and so quickly!

This article reveals three huge benefits of new media outlets (be it the internet, text messaging, etc) that can be very helpful to those of us in the political or campaign arena: people were able to congregate on short notice, it was of little direct cost to the original organizers and a snowball effect was created which resulted in more participants than were initially known to be interested… just think of the possibilities all you campaign managers in training!!! :)

I agree this is an interesting concept, but I thought it might not work in rural America.

This technology would work very well in Washington, DC or NYC to get a group together. But could it work in rural Nevada or Kansas where people have to drive 20+ minutes to the nearest store?

Just my 2 cents...

I agree that it will be a great campaign tool, depending upon your location.

Thank you for your comment el jorge... I didn't think about that. To be honest, it's hard for me to remember that everyone (esp. rural America) isn't "plugged in"!
