First Real Post

This post is based on my knowledge of Campaigning Online book from the assigned reading so far. I think the study done in the book is useful from a historical perspective, but I am wary of reading too much into it to draw lessons about the 2004 election and beyond. The Internet as a medium is changing rapidly and the Internet in the 96 election was much different than the Internet was in the 2000 election, and similarly from 2000 to 2004. One area I would expect a particular difference is in the use of highly targeted banner ads. Whether or not they have the same negligible effect, it would certainly increase access as well as lower the limit of interested needed to seek out the site. Either way, I am hesitant to apply Campaigning Online study to future online politics just yet.
