Bush Wins by Nose
According to Jakob Nielsen's Alterbox "Bush vs. Kerry: Email Newsletters Rated" Bush's team won the e-mail newsletter war by "a nose" or 1% after rating such topics as subscription interface, content & presentation, subscription maintenance & unscribing and junk mail differentation. It's clear that attention in the details is needed when developing a website for campaign purposes. If a user can't unsubscribe to an unsolicited e-mail, it sends a negative tone for that candidate which could impact the outcome. Yet more for managers to think about when using new media as a campaign communication tool.
I did find it interesting that Bush's content included more positive messages (50%) than Kerry (18%) and that Kerry had more negative messaging (49%) than Bush (14%). That's why I feel Bush is the better leader...he inspires the Nation to be better and rise above the negative rhetoric.

I beg to differ. I wrote that I was skeptical about the way Nielsen did that content coding, in my blog. That's not my experience of how Bush actually carried out his campaign.

I made a post yesterday on why I feel each campaign used the method they did. But I'm sorry, to say Bush is not negative is frankly ridiculous. Bush ran one of the most despicably negative campaigns in history, and that is coming from someone who learned politics in Buffalo. Over the past 6 years 3 war heroes were dumped on by the Bush smear machine, John McCain, John Kerry and Max Cleland. One got accused of being a Manchurian candidate, one had three purple hearts he won question, and another got his picture next to Osama bin Laden in a campaign commercial. Bush has spawned a cancer of negativity in American politics. I think there is one thing that sums it all up well. At the Republican National Convention the Iowa delegation in particular was wearing pins that said G.O.P. God's Own Party, which roughly translated into Arabic is Hezbollah.
As a subscriber to both the Bush TeamLeader and RNC TeamLeader email newsletters, I found them to be very positive.
They mostly centered on leadership and the future of our country. I know that the Dems think Bush ran a negative campaign, but we're talking about email newsletters here.
Were either of you who are disagreeing with the Neilsen rating subscribers to the Bush emails?
I found the Bush newsletters to be positive as well.
Of course Bush ran an extremely negative campaign. But we don't need to rehash the Republican smear machine over the class blogs (thats what hard liquor is for). However, as far as email newsletters, the pathetic Dems couldn't come up with anyone better than John Kerry and therefore had no choice but to run a mostly negative campaign . . and Bush gave them a lot of ammo. However, Bush new who his supporters were and knew how to communicate with them. They wern't going to vote for Kerry anyway, so he didn't need to trash Kerry in his message. Kerry had nothign to say to his supporters so he had to rely on throwing red meat to keep them motivated. Therein lies the difference.
