The Race for Online Fundraising
Last week I ran in the National Race for the Cure in DC as a first-time participant. I've had several family members disgnosed with breast cancer in the last six months and I felt the need to honor them and show my support. At first, I tried to rally family members to come to DC and run with me. I followed the simple instructions to establish a team online and recruit members. As I'm the only one in DC, I became not only the team captain, but the entire team.
With no one else to run with me, I began soliciting family and friends to sponsor me and support the cause financially. The site made this extremely easy and contained many tools and follow-up options available from tracking my progress to thank you notices. As Internet skills vary among my family and friends, many commented that donating online was fast and easy. At one point, I had someone ask about how the funds raised were used and I was able to find this information at the click of a button.
I was able to manage raising funds for the oganization, and enjoy the entire experience. My run time wasn't bad either. As both a participant and donor, this site is among some of the best I've experienced. If you've never been to their website, I strongly urge you to visit - it is truly amazing and their fudraising techniques are first-rate.

I like the way you tied in your personal experience with what we're studying. I'm sorry to hear so many family members have been diagnosed with breast cancer - hope they all do well!
Thanks for writing, Shadow. Everyone is well at home, which is a relief!
This was one of the sophisticated websites I'v experienced in terms of fundraising. Of course, a lot has to do with the programs written to capture data and enable users to raise funds successfully. Be sure to check it out!
