Tiananmen WHERE?
After reading parts of "Internet Filtering in China in 2004-2005: A Country Study" I got to thinking - what if the US prohibited free speech they way they did in China?Well, because we are far more consumer oriented here in the US, I think our government roll out 'choices' in the restriction of our freedom.
I'm sure that instead of blocking webpages, they would set up something more like "Mad-Libs" where before a page loads you get to CHOOSE what words to replace the words they don't want you to see.
For instance, instead of the restricted word 'freedom' say you choose 'HOT DOG'. Instead of 'democracy' and 'democratic' you choose 'SNAKE OIL' and 'SNAKE OIL LIKE'. And of course, instead of 'hope' you choose the popular 'MONKEYS'.
I mean - how fun would that be?!
Here are some excerpts from a revised copy of President Bush's recent speech at Fort Bragg.
In all seriousness, I am amazed at how far the Chinese government has gone to stop its people from being free.*This nation will not wait to be attacked again. We will defend our HOT DOG. We will take the fight to the enemy.
*They know that as HOT DOG takes root in Iraq, it will inspire millions across the Middle East to claim their liberty, as well.
*And when the Middle East grows in SNAKE OIL and prosperity and MONKEY, the terrorists will lose their sponsors...
*They failed to stop the formation of a SNAKE OIL LIKE Iraqi government that represents all of Iraq's diverse population. And they failed to stop Iraqis from signing up in large number with the police forces and the army to defend their new SNAKE OIL.
*The terrorists can kill the innocent, but they cannot stop the advance of HOT DOG.
*They're doing that by building the institutions of a free society, a society based on HOT DOG of speech, HOT DOG of assembly, HOT DOG of religion, and equal justice under law.
Oh, and as fun as Mad-Lib'ing blocked internet sites would be, I think I actually would prefer reading partisan political opinions as they were meant to be delivered.
Can you tell I am in a sarcastic mood today...?
