Honesty as the Best Policy?
A couple questions to start thinking about the impact of the internet on politics:
One of the unique capabilities of the internet is its ability to keep countries and people honest. For example, the Chinese government kept the events of Tiananmen Square secret for years, but now, with a simple internet search, the truth is known.
But are all secrets better known? Though Abe would attest that honesty is the best policy, some say that secrets are necessary, especially in terms of national security. Is the increase in the flow of information that results from the expansion of the internet a threat to a countrys' safety?

Point well taken, but leaks happened way before the internet. I don't think it really makes a big difference in terms of national security.

Filtering is important. As users of the Web, we need to remember that we are posting to the world at large. Don't post anything that you wouldn't want to be made public knowledge.
I agree with Shadow - leaks happened well before the Internet. I would think it would be a lot easier to determine who did the leaking given how saavy the FBI and other agents are in finding original sources.
