It’s Not Time to Replace E-mail Newsletters Yet.

Amy Gahran makes some great points her article, "What are Webfeeds (RSS), and Why Should You Care?" Webfeeds are a great new tool that need to be used by political campaigns and organizations. However, I also think it isn’t time to replace e-mail newsletters yet. Webfeeds should be added to the list of marketing tools but not yet used to replace current ones.

In her article, Gahran points out four problems with using Webfeeds. Of these, I think the first one, the fact that "learning is a hassle" is the most important. The average person who subscribes to e-mail newsletters is not yet ready to use and, certainly not ready to rely solely on Webfeeds. These disadvantages can eventually be overcome. Thus, it is important that Webfeeds are used in conjunction with these other tools.
